3 Effective Ways to Find a Job With Facebook
Finding a job with Facebook is not only possible today but in the next few years as many younger HR professionals enter the workplace they will push for additional resources be allocated to an organizations fan page. Traditionally Facebook has not been viewed as a great resource for job seekers but with the rise of involvement between the consumer and the company fan page that will quickly change.
Here are some effective ways to find a job on Facebook:
1) Find open positions on a companies fan page
Most of the major job boards charge between 150 – 300 dollars to post a job and during a recession most companies are looking at more cost effective options. The “Work For Us” tab (video below) is one of the best sources for finding open positions. They have a very easy application process with just submitting a resume online instead of filling out a 42 page online application. The cost of the application is very low and many companies are currently using SEM (Search Enging Marketing) to drive traffic to their fan page. Watch the video and see how easy it is to apply for a job. Then visit your target companies fan pages and see if they have this application or a similar one.
2) Use Facebook SEM to drive traffic to your personal website or online resume
Using Facebook ads to advertise ones self for a job opening is becoming more common these days but can be suprisingly effective. People naturally want to help others find a way into a career they would enjoy and are starting to view Facebook SEM as a creative way to network. Two factors to keep in mind while using SEM is setting a budget that is reasonable (Most cities can have 1,000 impressions run for 75 cents) and making sure the content of the advertisement is representative of your current skillset. There is no bigger turn off than an ad for an IT guy who helped Al Gore create the internet, developed the concept for the iPad, and somehow isn’t currently employed.
People who click on your Facebook advertisments should be directed to either your personal website or if you don’t have a personal website upload your resume to SlideShare.Net and interested parties can review your information.
3) Reach out to your current Facebook network
This may seem obvious but it’s amazing how many people have connections on Facebook and have no clue what the connection does professionally. Posting a message on your wall with a link to your personal website or SlideShare.Net account can help give a job search a much needed shot of adrenaline. The connections on Facebook may be some of your strongest supporters and will go out of their way to walk your credentials to their boss or HR department.
Social Media is having a positive impact on opening up additional channels for communication between the company and the consumer. Finding a job on Facbook is happening more every day, and if companies take a step back they may realize that in many cases the best employees would be their fans.
Eric,
I have found it helpful to find the company or agency that you want to work for and then visit their “work for us” or “available positions” page. However, I hadn’t realized that companies were taking this additional step and adding this option to thier facebook fan pages. And why not, facebook has become such an integral part of a companies marketing and presence on the web. It makes sense. Thanks for the tip.
